POET To “Blast Off” Project Liberty With Informational Meeting

By Staff | Feb 12, 2008

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – POET will “Blast Off” Project Liberty in Emmetsburg with an informational meeting Thursday, March 13. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a speaking program in the Wild Rose Banquet Room at the Wild Rose Casino (777 Main Street). Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.

The event will include a recap of the 2007 harvest, where POET worked with major agricultural equipment manufacturers to harvest 4,000 acres of corn grain and cobs, and an overview of company plans for the 2008 harvest. Presenters will be available for questions following the speaking program.

Project Liberty, the transformation of a 50 MGPY grain-to-ethanol plant in Emmetsburg into an integrated corn-to-ethanol and cellulose-to-ethanol biorefinery, is jointly funded by POET and the United States Department of Energy.

Once complete, the facility will produce 125 million gallons of ethanol per year, of which 25 million gallons will be from corn fiber and corn cobs.

By adding cellulosic production to an existing grain ethanol plant, POET will be able to produce 11 percent more ethanol from a bushel of corn, 27 percent more from an acre of corn, while reducing fossil fuel consumption and water use.
