Aquatics Center

By Staff | Feb 6, 2008

The Emmetsburg Aquatics Center Project Committee is hosting a communty informational meeting to discuss the possibility of constructing an outdoor aquatics facility in Emmetsburg. The meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Smith Wellness Center, postponed from late January due to inclement weather.

The project committee has been researching the possibility of an outdoor pool since 2004. They have been working with Darren Bevard of Larkin Aquatics. Artist drawings of a proposed outdoor aquatics center will be on display.

“Many of us have young children and the need is obvious for this type of facility,” said committee member Diane Brennan. “We frequent the Graettinger and Spencer pools in the summer and they are normally full of Ememtsburg families.”

The entire committee agrees that Emmetsburg has a top-notch indoor pool facility at the Smith Wellness Center. However, the committee feels that a new outdoor aquatics facility could act as a strong, new addition to the range of family aquatics offerings in the community.

Residents of the community are encouraged to attend the informational meeting next Tuesday to discuss an aquatics center for the community. Questions will be answered and comments will be heard.
