David Stanton, T.D. Is Irish Dignitary
David Stanton, T.D., and his wife, Mary, will be guests in Emmetsburg for ten days in March. David will represent the Republic of Ireland for the 2008 St. Patrick’s Celebration in Emmetsburg.
The Stantons will arrive in Iowa on Saturday, March 8. They will be guests of honor at the Junior Miss Pageant and the Miss Shamrock Pageant on Sunday, March 9.
Returning to Des Moines Tuesday, March 11, David Stanton will meet with Iowa Governor Chet Culver and address members of the Iowa Senate and House of Representatives.
That is just the beginning of the Stantons busy schedule. They will be in Emmetsburg for the week prior to the St. Patrick’s Celebration, visiting with community residents and touring sites in the area. There will be several opportunities for the public to meet David and Mary Stanton.
David Stanton, T.D., is a Fine Gael member of the Irish Parliament representing County Cork East. Born in County Cork, David Makes his home in Coppingerstown, Midleton Co. Cork. The Stantons are parents of four sons.
David holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and Mathematical Science, and Diplomas in Career Guidance and Education Administration from UCC. He was also conferred with an Honours Masters Degree in Education by the NUI in 1996.
Before being elected to the Dail, David was a woodwork and technical drawing teacher and a career guidance counselor in St. Colman’s Community College in Midleton.
David Stanton was elected to the Dail in 1997 and re-elected in 2002 and 2007. He was the Fine Gael Front Bench Spokesperson on Social and Family Affairs and Equality from October 2004 to September 2007. He is former Deputy Spokesperson in Education and Science with special responsibility for the Information Society in June 2002. Prior to this, he acted as Deputy Spokesperson on Public Enterprise, Agriculture and Food and was the party’s Spokesperson on Labour Affairs, Consumer Rights and Trade (1997-2000). He coordinates policy and chairs Fine Gael Oireachtas Committee on Disability Issues (December 2002 to present).
David is a Director of Midleton and District Day Care Center, Ltd., a patron of Midleton and Carrigtwohill Red Cross and is a member of the Chambers of Commerce at Cobh, Youghal and Midleton. He is a former Commissioned Officer in An Forsa Cosanta Aituil and a past member of Macra na Feirme.
The Stantons will be in Iowa from March 8 through Monday, March 17.
