By Staff | Jan 10, 2008

The first baby of 2008 has arrived in Palo Alto County! Little Ian Thomas Roethler, son of Justin and Angie Roethler of rural West Bend, was born at Palo Alto County Hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008.

The newcomer weighed in at 8 pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 inches in length.

Baby Ian is welcomed home by a big sister, Jayda, age 7, and a big brother, Caden, age 2.

Grandparents are Patti and Kevin Roethler of Algona, and Jerome and Cynthia Laubenthal of West Bend.

Angie admitted that she was surprised that Ian was born so close to New Year’s Day. She works as the Aquatics Facilitator and Program Coordinator at the Smith Wellness Center in Emmetsburg. Justin is a self-employed farmer. The couple and their family live on a farm between Rodman and West Bend.

In addition to the distinction of being the first baby of 2008 to be born in Palo Alto County, Ian and his family were the recipients of a gift basket presented by Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cecilia Miller. The basket was filled with several gifts donated by Emmetsburg businesses.

Gifts for the 2008 New Year Baby were provided by the Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce and Emmetsburg’s Iowa Welcome Center, A & W, The Glass Shop, Hardware Hank, Iowa Trust & Savings Bank, K. Jackson & Co., Mainstreet Memories Mall, The Reporter & Democrat newspapers, Saxton’s Greenhouse & Flowers, Schwartz Chiropractic, and Wells Fargo Bank.
