Garden Club Plans Educational Outings
The Palo Alto Garden Club celebrated National Garden Club Week by hosting the weekly Chamber Coffee June 8 at the Victorian House in Emmetsburg.
The landscaping at the Victorian House is an ongoing community service project of our club. Members sign up during the summer and fall months for one week of care and watering of the plants and pots. This year a “Plant it Pink” theme has been added to the entry garden and porch pot.
Following the Chamber Coffee the monthy meeting was called to order by President Cynthia Berkland.
In unfinished business members received updates on the library display, the plantings at the campground and Soper Park, and the planters at local nursing homes.
Kevin Fehr was present to give additional information and pass out sign-up sheets for our July meeting which will be a day trip to the Loess Hills Lavender Farms on July 10. Cynthia reported that she and Judy Weis had represented the club at the Senior Fun & Wellness Day by handing out seed packets and information on Garden Club.
Several dates were given for upcoming events. Information on a wildflower workshop in Indianolo and the state meeting in Mason City was shared.
Palo Alto Garden Club will be hosting a District 6 meeting for garden club in 2020. Seems like a long way off but it was decided that this is a good time to start some planning. Cynthia Berkland, Angie Beem, and Alice Ann Underwood volunteered to be the steering committee for that event. It was suggested that several sub committees will be needed as the planning for that gets closer.
In an additional item of business a motion was made by Angie Beem and seconded by Fay Wojahn that our club send a card and a love gift of money to Lois Neighbors who has been a very active member of Palo Alto Garden Club for many years.
