CLASSICS AT THE RIVIERA -- Palo Alto Arts Council presented DVDs from the first year of Classics at the Riviera to Emmetsburg Public Library last Sunday. Pictured (from the left) are Greg Hoyman, proprietor of Riviera Theatre, with Arts Council president LouAnn Huberty, Arts Council member Julie Leners, Michelle James who posts information on Facebook, Kathy Merrill who creates power point presentations for each movie, and Arts Council member Rosemary Matthews. Movies were selected and purchased by the Palo Alto Arts Council for matinee shows at Riviera Theatre the second Sunday of each month. There is no cost to attend the Classics at the Riviera matinees. Kathy Merrill said she approached the Arts Council about the project because she liked to watch movies with her dad and she wanted to see classic movies on the big screen. Kathy assisted with writing the grant to Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corporation to purchase the movies. Classics at the Riviera is in its second year. “Yankee Doodle Dandy” is the next movie to be shown Sunday, July 8, at 4:30 p.m. For a complete listing of Classics at the Riviera, look under the Classics tab on the Emmetsburg Riviera Theatre website Emmetsburgmovies.com or pick up a schedule at the theatre or at Emmetsburg Public Library. --Jane Whitmore photo
