What’s Been Happening At Emmetsburg Middle School

By Staff | Apr 10, 2018

On March 14th the ISU Extension Office has created a day of activities to work with our 7th and 8th Grade boys. They will divide the boys into three groups and cover the following topics throughout the day: leadership, leadership attitude, communication, decision making, stress management, and breakout room-team building. Thanks to this group of individuals who spent an entire day with our students and worked on the skills they will need to be productive citizens.

STEM Festival

The Middle Schools girls in grades 7 & 8 were invited to attend the STEM Festival at Iowa Lakes Community College on March 14th. They were split into groups by Iowa Lakes and attended some of the following sessions: Hunger Games Global Trivia, Think Like a Programmer, Cookie Extraction, Fun with Fossils, Wind Tube Exploration, Engineering Design Challenge, Water Testing, Innovation Challenge, Russian Aircraft Identification, Blood Pressure, Egg Food Science, Protect the Pringle, and Microscopy. This is a great opportunity for our girls to see what opportunities are available for them in various STEM careers and explore opportunities in this area.

7th Graders to Des Moines

On March 20th our 7th Graders had an opportunity to tour the State Capitol in Des Moines, and then got an opportunity to enjoy an hour and a half at the ice skating rink in Ames.
