What’s Your Favorite House Plant? Palo Alto Garden Club Dec. Meeting
The Palo Alto Garden Club met on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in room 17 at ILCC. President Cynthia Berkland, called the meeting to order and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Garden Club Creed. The tip of the month on caring for cut poinsettias was shared by hostess, Mary Ann Young. 22 members and 3 guests answered roll call, “What is your favorite house plant?”
A thank you was read from the Emmetsburg Head Start for books that we had donated to their program. A thank you was given to Angie Beem and Lois Neighbors who had recently updated the display in the Emmetsburg Library. Thank you also to the group who had decorated a tree at the Nature Center.
A reminder was given to get our Garden Club dues paid by the end of the year. Sign-up sheets were available for day trips to the Lavender Farm and Seed Savers planned for next year. A sign-up sheet was also available for hostesses for the coming year.
In new business a motion was made by Jamie Christiansen and seconded by Kay Kibbie to give a $100.00 “Love gift” to the Nature Center in honor of the retirement of Miriam Patton. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Our program in honor of the 80th Anniversary of Palo Alto Garden Club was written by Mary Ann Young and read by Angie Beem. Mary Ann did a beautiful job of bringing the highlights of the last 80 years together. We will all be encouraged to continue the ground work established by previous members through the years.
After the program we had a delicious lunch served by ILCC staff. We then filled cookie plates to be taken to Kathleen’s, Lakeside Lutheran, Emmetsburg Care Center and PARC Hall.
The Palo Alto County Garden Club will resume meetings in March of 2018.
