Catholic Daughters of the Americas November Minutes
Court St. Rose of Lima #14 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas met on November 7, 2017, at the Holy Family Parish Center. Mass was celebrated by Father Clem Currans, Eucharistic Minister was Bertha Mathis, Lector was Angie Beem, and the music was provided by Myrna Heddinger, Ellen Picray and Judy Murphy. The rosary prior to Mass was led by Ellen Picray.
After Mass the court was treated to dinner provided by the chairs Jane Bruch, Rita Rezabek, and the committee.
The meeting was called to order by Regent, Colleen Ruddy, opening prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance were recited, and the minutes from October’s meeting accepted. Judy Murphy read a thank you note, and Treasurer Judy Sorensen reported balances and expenditures,
Standing Items included: Blood Drive is the first Wednesday of the even months. The Rosary Makers will meet the first Wednesday after Thanksgiving at the Parish Center at 9:00 A.M.
Unfinished Business included: Feed Our Kids, Emmetsburg. Thursday, December 24 at 1:30 to 2:30. Volunteers are Esty Fogarty, Judy Murphy, Bertha Mathis, Diane Smith and Cathy Faber. Angie Beem and Jane Bruch reported on the Fall Workshop at Cherokee. Some of the items covered were The passing of the Robes Ceremony to be held in May before the installation of new officers in June, giving rosaries to hospitals, nursing homes and hospices, The Emmetsburg Court is up-to-date. About twenty women participated in the National CD of A Sunday in Emmetsburg with favorable comments, and about 200 White Ribbons Against Pornography were distributed on White Ribbon Sunday. Church Women United met in West Bend with a program on the guidelines from DHS in Estherville. Gwenna Appel received the Valiant Woman Award. Reminders, Circle of Love projects are due in March.
In New Business, after some discussion, Nancy Wentzel made a motion for the Court to take over the Christmas Angel Tree, and the motion was seconded by Angie Beem. The motion passed. A request was made by UDMO for a donation of $35 to $50 to keep their program Book Club functioning. Bertha Mathis made the motion to donate $50.00 to the program, and Rita Rezabek seconded. The motion passed.
Closing Items included: Good of the Order was given by Angie Beem on All Souls and All Saints Days. These days are celebrations of all those who have been saints to us and have gone on before us, and the Saints among us in our everyday lives. We need to not take them for granted, both Saints in Heaven and on Earth, who give us strength through the trials of our lives. Three Hail Marys were recited for the fall of terrorism, and a Decade of the Rosary was led by Mary Ellen Leners for those in need.
