During the October 26, 2017 Provider/Medical Staff meeting, Ruth Metzger, ARNP was honored for her many years of service at Palo Alto County Health System. Mary Lee Orr Clinic Manager comments, “Ruth always came to work with a smile. She was loved by her patients and respected by her co-workers. She will be missed dearly.”

“In September of 1974, I started working at Palo Alto County Health System as a medical-surgical nurse,” recalled Ruth. “Eventually, I became the evening shift nursing supervisor. While working in that position, Dr.Coffey and Dr.Cozine approached me and asked if I would be interested in becoming a nurse practitioner, as they were looking for another provider. I was excited to take them up on their offer, and they sent me off to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND where I graduated in January of 1979. I worked with them at PACHS in Emmetsburg until 1985, when I returned to my home town of West Bend to work with Dr.Kellenberger for a couple years while maintaining my affiliation with PACHS.”

“I then moved to Ortonville, MN where I practiced for two years. In 1989, I returned to the area, married Duane Metzger and became a homemaker for a couple years,” Ruth Continued. “Dr.Coffey again asked me to work with him and I joined him for a few months working for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). While I was working there, Drs. Morrison, Wieneke and Veltri called and asked if I would consider working at PACHS again. I agreed, and since then, I have been working part time for PACHS at the Emmetsburg, Graettinger and West Bend Clinics. I have seen many improvements in the facility and enjoyed the many years working with the PACH system and am grateful and want to thank the communities of Emmetsburg, Graettinger and West Bend for the opportunity to serve them.”
