Local Catholic Daughters of America has October Meeting

Court St. Rose of Lima #14 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas met on Oct. 3, 2017 at the Holy Family Parish Center. Mass was celebrated by Monsignor Sernett, Eucharistic Minister was Judy Weis. The Lector was Diane Smith, and music was provided by Myrna Heddinger, Judy Sorensen, and Judy Murphy. Rosary prior to Mass was led by Mary Ellen Leners.

After Mass, the court was treated to dinner provided by Chairs Angie Beem, Elaine Flint, and the committee.

Irene Mayland gave the program on the Head Start Book Program of Palo Alto County. Head Start serves poverty level three and four year olds. Ms. Mayland informed the group on how important the Catholic Daughter’s continued support of their book program is to them. Book donations are appreciated.

The meeting was called to order by Regent Coleen Ruddy.

The standing items included the blood drive that will be held the first Wednesday of even months. MaryAnn Young, Jane Bruch, and Angie Beem volunteered to staff the October date. The Prayer Shawl and the Rosary Makers will not be meeting this month.

In unfinished business, members were reminded to sign up to work for Feed Our Kids at Bethany Lutheran Church, on Thursday afternoons at 1:30 for about an hour. It was reported that the salad luncheon brought in $610.00 with 101 people attending. It was suggested that perhaps a small sandwich could be added to the menu in order to appeal to more men. It was tabled until the June meeting.

Bertha Mathis reported on the CD of A Education Contest for this year. The themes are: The Lord Has Done Great Things for Us, We Are Filled with Joy, or Finding Joy in My Life. The contest is open to both students and adults. Entries may be in prose, poetry and several forms of art. Jane Bruch reported on Church Women United. The next meeting will be on Nov. 3, at 1:30 at the Methodist Church in West Bend. The theme will be, Kindling New Fires for Peace.

Good of the Order was given by Betty Drew on the merits and Godliness of the dandelion.

Prayer for the troops was recited along with a decade of the Rosary led by Judy Weis.

Dinner Chairs for the November7th meeting are Jane Bruch and Rita Rezabek.
