Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)
The 2014 Farm Bill requires that beginning in Fiscal Year 2017 no more than 24 million acres can be enrolled in CRP. Current enrollment is CRP is approximately 23.9 million acres. The Continuous CRP Signup #50 began on October 1, 2016. We are accepting offers for enrollment into CRP. Producers have the following options.
Option 1 Producers may request a contract to be effective October 1, 2017 (next fall). We will process offers; NRCS will complete conservation plan with you and FSA will approve CRP contract and it will begin on October 1, 2017.
Option 2 Producers may request a contract to be effective immediately (as soon as crop is harvested). These offers will be accepted on a non-competitive first come first serve basis. Offers will then be placed in a batch process to ensure that program levels do not exceed statutory cap. Offers will be approved based on county office notification by national office on a monthly basis pending availability of acres.
If acres do not become available for this year, contracts on the wait-list can be offered for a 10/01/17 effective date if producers agree.
We also can begin on CRP re-enrollments for contracts expiring 9/30/2017. The 6 month deferment rule has been waived. The national office is working on a letter to send to those producers.
Producers that are interested in enrolling new land or re-enrolling land that is scheduled to expire 9/30/2017 please contact us at the Palo Alto County Farm Service Agency at 712 852 3386.
