Iowa Lakes Convocation Schedule
Iowa Lakes Community College extends an invitation to the community to attend the 2016-2017 convocation series. Convocations bring cultural and diverse events to campus and the community. They have proven to be extremely popular among students and community members.
The Southwest Minnesota State University Wheelchair Basketball Team will be here on Tuesday, Sept. 20. They will be in the Emmetsburg Campus gymnasium at 10 a.m. and in the Estherville Campus gymnasium at 1 p.m.
The Mustang players will share about their disabilities and what it is like living with their disability. They will also demonstrate how to play wheelchair basketball and will invite people from the crowd to give it a try.
Andy Hall will perform in the Emmetsburg Campus gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. and in the Estherville Campus gymnasium on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 9 a.m.
Andy will present the history of bass playing through the ages during his presentation entitled “All About the Bass”. Andy will be accompanied by Tony Gulizia, keyboards and vocals, and Joey Gulizia, percussion.
Dr. Damani Phillips and guests will be here on Wednesday, Feb. 8. They will be performing in the Estherville Campus gymnasium at 10 a.m. and in the Emmetsburg Campus gymnasium at 1 p.m. Dr. Phillips and guests will help us honor Black History Month by presenting “Jazz in the Fight for Civil Rights”.
They will discuss specific examples of how jazz music was used to highlight and speak out against social and cultural injustices during the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. There will be musical examples to demonstrate the music discussed.
Everyone at Iowa Lakes is very excited about the performers coming to the college to share their experiences and talents.
