WaTanYe Scholarship Awarded To Students

By Staff | Jun 30, 2016

The WaTanYe Scholarship was established to reward a non-traditional age student pursuing higher education at Iowa Lakes Community College. This scholarship is funded by Estherville WaTanYe (an Indian word meaning “Service Foremost”) which was established in Estherville in 1936. The recipient is chosen based on community service performed and personal essays provided with the scholarship application.

For 2016-17, additional scholarship funds were provided by the Family of Darlene Seylar. This resulted in an additional $1000 in scholarships being awarded in memory of Darlene Seylar, who was a WaTanYe member for 52 years. Award amounts vary and may be used for any educational expenses.

The 2016-17 recipients are:

Felicia Carrillo of Estherville WaTanYe $200

Rebekah Broadie of Spencer Seylar Memorial $500

Natalie Rosenberg of Algona Seylar Memorial $500
