Emmetsburg residents need to become vigilant of activities in their neighborhoods. Public Works Director Frank Kliegl is pictured beside a picnic table with a broken bench. The wood was in good condition and it took force to do the damage. The incident occurred over the Memorial Day weekend.

Kliegl stated that damage to public properties, including park restrooms and picnic tables, is a continuous problem.

City officials are in the process of putting up surveillance cameras in the parks to deter the problem. In the mean time, residents are encouraged to contact Emmetsburg Police Department if they see something suspicious. Get a description of the vehicle or a license number.

Police Chief Eric Hanson said damage to public property is Criminal Mischief, with the degree of the offense based on the dollar amount of damage.
