Bennett Awarded $2,500 Scholarship From Iowa Masons

Taylor D. Bennett, a senior at West Bend-Mallard High School in West Bend, has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the Grand Lodge of Iowa, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons “Mark Earl and Esther Ruth Spencer Technical Scholarship”.

Taylor was one of ten Iowa High School students selected to receive the MCEC Technical scholarship from more than 40 applicants.

Since the program’s inception in 2009, the Grand Lodge of Iowa has awarded $186,750 in scholarships to 144 students. This year alone $25,000 in scholarships was awarded from an endowment fund to those students who plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College.

At present, Taylor plans to attend the Powerline Program at Northwest Iowa Community College. Taylor’s Secondary Business Instructor notes: “Taylor demonstrates a strong work ethic, which is indicated by his academic performance through high school.”

Known to be the world’s oldest fraternity, Masonry is an organization dedicated to building character among its members. Membership is open to men 18 years old and older. There are 270 Masonic Lodges in communities across the state.
