Area Students Accepted at Iowa Lakes

Erin Poeppe, son of Mike and Mandy Poeppe of Emmetsburg has been accepted into the Agriculture Production Technology Program for the Fall 2016 semester at Iowa Lakes Community College.

The Agriculture Production Technology Program has three phases: classroom activities, laboratory experience on the 360-acre farm with livestock, crops and equipment and supervised employment experience in production agriculture. The supervised employment experience is planned so that the student can be on the home farm or place d on a cooperating farm in the area during the spring planting and fall harvest periods.

Students are involved in management decisions on the farm dealing with the land and livestock. Activities in soil testing, GPS/GIS, fertilizing, tillage, harvesting, marketing and field records analysis are taught and put into practice. In the livestock management area students develop and put into practice the selection, breeding, feeding, data collection, records analysis and marketing programs necessary for swine and cattle production.

Dalten Moen, son of Brant and Jayme Moen of Emmetsburg has been accepted into the Arts & Science Program for the Fall 2016 semester at Iowa Lakes Community College.

The Liberal Arts Program offers an opportunity for a student to get two years of transferable college credit. Successful completion of this course of study culminates with the Associate in Arts Degree or the Associate in Science Degree. Graduates of this program have transferred to colleges and universities all over the United States.

Iowa Lakes Community College offers more that 100 areas of study at its locations is Algona, Emmetsburg, Estherville, Spencer and Spirit Lake. In addition, the college provides training and retraining to employees of area business and industry as well as continuing education courses. Iowa Lakes is accredited by the Iowa Department of Education as well as the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
