William “Bill” Conway

Visitation for William "Bill" H. Conway will be Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Parish Vigil Service at 4 p.m., at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. Bill Schreiber.

Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg. Martin-Mattice Funeral is in charge of arrangements.

William Henry Conway, son of Lawrence and Leona (Kimmick) Conway, was born November 17, 1948 in Emmetsburg.

His family farmed near Ayrshire and Bill attended Ayrshire Consolidated School, graduating in 1966. Following graduation Bill attended Emmetsburg Junior College.

Bill was employed by a construction firm where he did masonry work and surveying. He later worked as the assistant manager for the Holiday Station.

After several years there Bill was employed by Emmetsburg Publishing where he operated the print machine. Bill was forced to quit working due to health issues.

Bill was a faithful and devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

He was a member of the Spencer Eagles Club where he held the positions of president and vice president. Bill was also a member of A.A. for over twenty years.

When he was younger, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved playing Bingo at the V.F.W. and area locations.

He called Bingo at the Eagles Club. He also liked to play cards at the Shamrock as well as with his friends and family.

Bill always looked forward to shopping trips with Jacqie and they loved getting the best deals on the products they bought.

Bill will be remembered for his determination throughout his illness and his love to be out and about visiting with people no matter his limitations.

Bill passed away Monday, January 27, 2020 at his home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Leona Conway and two step sons, James Whitehill and Jacob Whitehill.

He is survived by his wife, Rose of Emmetsburg; his children, Bill Conway of Joplin, MO and Jacqueline Conway of Emmetsburg; step daughter, Corinna Whitehill of Grants, NM; fourteen grandchildren; several cousins; as well as many other relatives and friends.
