Richard William Madsen

Funeral service for Richard W. Madsen was held Wednesday, May 15, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Richard William Madsen, son of Hans and Mary (Ernst) Madsen was born Dec. 4, 1940 in Pocahontas. He was a 1959 graduate of Cylinder High School, and he continued his education taking accounting at junior college in Mason City.

Richard was married to Nancy Fisher, and to this union, two children, Lori and Jeff, were born. On April 7, 2000, Richard married Patricia Ann (Howard) Carrigan.

Richard was the manager of the Cylinder Elevator for many years. He served as chief for the Cylinder Fire Department, and he was a truck driver for Lee Prentice, Bituminous and Milligan. Richard retired from driving truck in 2003 due to illness.

He was an avid outdoorsman, taking many fishing trips to Northern Minnesota and Canada. He loved hunting, gardening, gun collecting and cooking. He treasured the time he spent with all of his family, and enjoyed having a few beers with family and friends.

On Friday, May 10, 2019, Richard passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Lori Hildreth and her daughter, Haley; son, Jeff Madsen; daughter, Jen Marienau (Jason) and their children, Jamison and Jaelyn Marie-nau; stepchildren: Julie Carrigan, Pam Meyer (Mark), Scott Carrigan, Ken Carrigan (Pam), Kim Carrigan and Gary Carrigan; sister, Betty Baker; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Hans and Mary Madsen; wife, Patricia Madsen; sister, Carol; brother, Ronald; and two great-grandsons, Kolten and Kyler Carrigan.

On behalf of Richard, the Madsen family would like to extend a special thanks to Kim Carrigan for four and one-half years of dedicated assistance to and from dialysis, and extra care around the home, and a thanks to Warner Dialysis Center for all of their kindness and care.
