Lavonne Emma Haack, daughter of James and Gladys (Horton) Preston, was born Jan. 15, 1932 in Spencer. She attended elementary school in Spencer through fifth grade. Her family then moved to Cylinder where Lavonne attended school through tenth grade.

On June 19, 1948, Lavonne was united in marriage to Bernard Edward Haack in Jackson, MN. To this union ten children were born.

Lavonne and Bernard resided on their farm near Cylinder, where they raised dairy cattle. Lavonne was employed at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, working the night shift and also worked for over 30 years at Lakeside Lutheran Home.

They enjoyed gardening together and canning the produce they raised for their family. Lavonne and Bernard loved dancing, visiting with friends and family, traveling and playing cards, especially Wahoo. Lavonne loved to sing and taught her children many songs that they all sang together for several events in the community. When Lavonne was a young girl she sang on the radio and one of her favorite songs was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". In 1990, Lavonne was very proud to earn her G.E.D. through Iowa Lakes Community College. She also spent a lot of time exercising, which she enjoyed, after experiencing health issues.

Lavonne was a past member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew before joining Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.

Lavonne and Bernard retired from farming and moved to Arizona. While living in Arizona, Lavonne worked at a Tots Unlimited, a daycare for children. In 1980 they returned to the Cylinder area and began dairy farming again.
