November 27, 2018
Emmetsburg News

On November 20, the Lakers fought off Gustavus Adolphus JV 75-71 to head into Thanksgiving break. The Lakers were led by Shareece Smith who put up 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Breanna Wendland added 20 points and Samantha Hagedorn added 11 points.

"We were a little flat tonight. We could never really find our rhythm but am proud of the kids and how they battled through adversity tonight. Always good to pull out a win on a night when we are struggling. The kids are learning how to win close games and this will be very valuable experience as we enter conference play,"commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

On November 24, the Lakers won on the road over Minnesota West 71-61.

The Lakers were led by freshman Breanna Wendland of Minneapolis with 23 points. Freshman Samantha Hagedorn of Bancroft, IA tallied 17 points, freshman Shareece Smith of Fort Dodge, IA added 3 points, and freshman Safiyer Coleman of Denver, CO added 11 points.

"I thought our effort on the defensive end in the 2nd half was really good. We are a very young team and are learning how hard you have to play every possession. We are working on playing through mistakes and continue to grow. This coming week will present a lot of good challenges for the team. We will play three games in 6 days and all very good teams. I look for us to continue to improve and embrace these opportunities," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

The Lakers are 7-1 on the season and 0-0 in conference play.
