Endorsing Jones

Emmetsburg News

In 2014, I came to Megan Jones with an issue and idea. Our state needed to financially help adopting families. Adoption is a difficult journey--made worse by burdensome expenses.

Megan gathered the support of fellow legislators and teamed up with the entities such as the Iowa Right to Life Committee and the Iowa Catholic Conference to push for an adoption tax credit.

House File 2468 created an individual income tax credit for adoption expenses. Adoption is, unfortunately, a very expensive process. Medical charges, hospital expenses, adoption agency fees, legals fees--they all add up.

On May 23, 2014, Governor Branstad signed the bill into law. It is estimated by the nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency that the law would be utilized by 410 families. That's 410 kids that found the road to a family that much easier.

And my family is one of the them.

I appreciate Megan's work on this bill and her concern for the children and families of Iowa.

Megan Jones is a leader that Northwest Iowa is fortunate to have representing us. In addition to being an outstanding representative, continually working hard for our district, Megan is the Assistant Majority Leader in the Iowa House. This is a position that provides strength to her ability to get things done.

This past session, Megan provided a wonderful example of a woman's ability to balance family and work. By bringing her daughter Alma (who was too young for daycare) onto the House floor, Megan showed her knack for making things work. It was a joy to see both republican and democrat members of the House taking turns caring for Alma.

When not in session, Megan is home helping our community grow. She is constantly attending and participating in meetings and functions geared at improving our local cities, counties, and the lives of everyone living in NW Iowa. Along with Angie McCaulley, Megan is currently working on getting funding to found a hands-on learning center and indoor play space (to be named WonderLab) for children.

We need people living and staying in NW Iowa, particularly ones engaged in our agricultural economy. Megan and her husband, Will, exemplify what we need in rural Iowa. Two young people, taking over the family farm, building a home, strengthening their local roots, and growing a family all show their investment in the future of our community.

This election, please vote for the person we need fighting for us and our Iowa values. This election, vote for Megan Jones.
