Statistics never do a game or players justice. Connor Saathoff accounted for two of Emmetsburg's fumbles but had 82 in yards, including a 40-yard run. Saathoff also had two solo tackles, two assists and blocked a point-after kick. Quarterback Connor Joyce had two fumbles and one interception. Joyce also threw for 117 yards, ran for 14, had two solo tackles and assisted on four others.

Algona struck first. At the 8:36 mark in the first quarter, QB Matt Grein connected with Wyatt Wegener for a quick pass. Wegener did the rest, taking the ball from the E-Hawks 47-yard line. The Bulldogs kicked the point after.

Emmetsburg answer just over a minute later. Joyce connected to receiver Gerard Ruiz for Emmetsburg's longest play from scrimmage this season a 57-yard completion and run for a touchdown. Joyce completed the kick for the point after, tying the score 7-7.

The second quarter belonged to the Bulldogs. At 11:35, Grein again found Wegener for a completion. Wegener took the ball at Emmetsburg's 26-yard line and scampered into the endzone for a 44-yard score. Saathoff blocked the point-after kick.

With 5:32 to go in the half, Grein handed the ball to Skyler Groen. Groen did the rest, ripping off an 18-yard run into the endzone. Spencer Holmes completed the point-after kick to increase Algona's lead to 20-7, which would hold as the teams went into halftime.

The Bulldogs pulled away in the third quarter. With 7:02 to and following a lengthy drive, Grein handed off to Jacob Durant at Emmetsburg's five-yard line. Durant carried the ball over for the touchdown. Holmes connected on the PAT to increase Algona's lead to 27-7.

At the 2:13 mark in the third and deep in Emmetsburg territory, Grein connected with Groen, who took the ball in from the six for the score. Holmes notched another PAT to make the score 34-7.

The E-Hawks got things going at the start of the fourth. After an impressive drive that took Emmetsburg to Algona's eight-yard line, Joyce handed off to Nick Schany who powered his way into the endzone. Joyce kicked the PAT, making the score 34-14.

After recovering an E-Hawks' fumble at the 10-minute mark, the Bulldogs scored on a 53-yard Wegener run. Holmes completed the PAT kick to make the score 41-14.

Emmetsburg did not stop pressing. QB Ben Dunlap replaced Joyce. Emmetsburg relied on the run game to advance the ball into Algona territory. With 58 seconds to go in the game, Dunlap handed off to Cole Shirk who took it into the endzone. Cade Jacobson completed the PAT, making the score 41-21, where it would stay.

Despite what appears to be a lopsided loss and putting aside the five turnovers Emmetsburg played well. Brett Hoyman and Schany had three solo tackles each. Hoyman chipped in on five tackles and Schany assisted on 15. Spencer Griffin had a strong defensive game for the E-Hawks with 14 assisted tackles.

Ethan Berven had two solo tackles and one assist. What does not appear on the stat's sheet is Berven's passion. He repeatedly exhorted his teammates to hit, tackle and stop the screen. A few of the E-Hawks' defensive linemen got into scraps following plays. They may have lost out on the etiquette award but took home the gut-check trophy.
