Emmetsburg News

Services for Eddie Leo Fisher were held Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. Rev. Tom Summerfield officiated.

Internment was in Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven. He received military honors from American Legion Post 33. Martin-Mattice Funeral was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Leo Fieseler, son of William Henry and Florence Marion (Mills) Fieseler, was born July 15, 1923 three miles north of Ruthven. He received his education and graduate from Ruthven High School in 1942.

Following high school Eddie served in the Marine Corp during WWII and served his country for two years.

After being honorably discharged from the service he returned to the Ruthven area where he farmed and worked at the filling station. He also was employed at the Estherville packing plant and then began trucking for Ervin Miller. Eddie also was a truck driver for Ace Lines Trucking in Des Moines before retiring in 1987.

Eddie was a devoted and active member of the Ruthven American Legion Post #33. Whenever the Legion had an event, Eddie was there and during pancake breakfasts you could always find him stirring up the pancake batter.

Eddie was a joy to his family and was always present at any special events. He loved trucking and whenever he was passing through where any of his family resided, he found time to stop for a visit. When Eddie had time he enjoyed going fishing. He liked to travel to Texas and Arizona in the winters with his fifth wheel units or his motorhome. He was an avid Cubs fan and never missed a game.

Eddie passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven, at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence; brothers, Robert Fieseler, Donald Fieseler and Marion Fieseler; sisters, Phyllis Fieseler in infancy and Irene Gibb; and his grandparents, Henry and Anna Fieseler and Marion and Jennie Mills.

He is survived by sisters, Marie Nelson (Harry) Haas of Spencer, Iowa and Ruth (Raymond) Gray of Tilden, Nebraska; a brother, Wilmer Fieseler; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
