Lady E-Hawks Blank ELC Friday Night

The Lady E-Hawks closed out the regular season Friday night with a satisfying 6-0 win over Estherville Lincoln Central in softball action. The victory gave Emmetsburg a 23-7 mark as they prepared to the post-season on Tuesday night.

The game started out in a defensive battle between the two long-time rivals, as Estherville Lincoln Central would be retired in order in the top of the first and Emmetsburg left Emma Anderson waiting at first when the inning ended. In the top of the second, the Midgets would get a runner to second before being retired on a double play. The Lady E-Hawks would get Lindsay Carter on base after she was hit by a pitch, but she was left stranded when the inning ended.

In the top of the third, ELC would get runners on second and third but left the pair stranded when the at-bat ended, but the Lady E-Hawks were retired in order to start the fourth inning.

The Midgets would strand two runners in the top of the inning and Emmetsburg was once again retired in order.

In the top of the fifth, the Midgets would strand a runner in their at-bat, but in the bottom of the fifth, Emmetsburg's offense came alive. Lindsay Carter, Parker Traub, Ali Laubenthal and Abbie Schany all came home to score in the inning, while Annie Brennan and Emma Anderson were left waiting when the inning ended with Emmetsburg now holding a -4-0 lead.

Estherville Lincoln Central would strand a runner in the top of the sixth, while the Lady E-Hawks would bring Mikayla Frerichs and Parker Traub over the plate to score runs, before leaving Abbie Schany at first when Ali Laubenthal was thrown out trying to score.

The Midgets would leave a runner waiting in their final at-bat to give Emmetsburg the 6-0 victory.

Mikayla Frerichs got the win in seven innings of work, allowing four hits o with two walked and 11 strikeouts.

Emmetsburg got two hits each from Annie Brennan, Abbie Schany and Emma Anderson, while Parker Traub and Lindsay Carter added base hits.
