By Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

With the regular season winding down, Emmetsburg's E-Hawks ended the week on a down note in an 11-3 loss to Estherville Lincoln Central. The loss gives Emmetsburg a record of 10-8 on the season overall.

The game would start out with ELC stranding a runner at second, but in the bottom of the first, Emmetsburg got a walk off home run from Hunter McAliister over the right center field fence to put the E-Hawks up 1-0, but the E-Hawks would leave Ben Dunlap and Lex Kassel waiting when the inning ended.

The Midgets came out in the second and quickly put up two runs to take the lead, but left runners waiting at second and third when their opportunity ended. Emmetsburg would be retired in order in the bottom of the second to trail 2-1 to start the third inning.

ELC went down in order in the third, while Emmetsburg got Ben Dunlap on base and eventually to third, while Jeremiah Weir got to first base, but the duo would be left looking for a way home when the inning ended.

The Midgets found something in the top of the fourth, pushing four runs over the plate and stranding a runner at third before being stopped by the E-Hawk defense. Emmetsburg would get Nick Krieg on base off a single, but would leave him when the inning ended.

With a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth, ELC added two more runs and stranded a runner to edge out to an 8-1 advantage as the E-Hawks came up to bat. But Emmetsburg went down two quick outs before getting Nick Schany on base off a fielders' choice, but he would be left looking for a way home when the inning ended.

The Midgets would put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth, adding three more runs and again stranding a pair of runners for an 11-1 advantage. Emmetsburg would try to rally in the bottom of the sixth, getting back-to-back base hits from Lex Kassel and Dylan Kibbie, as the duo would both score their runs off a double from Nick Krieg, but Krieg would be stranded to end the inning.

With an 11-3 lead in the top of the seventh, Estherville Lincoln Central would get two base runners, but left them stranded. The E-Hawks would get Nick Schany and Jeremiah Weir on base in the bottom of the seventh, but would be unable to bring them home as the game ended.

Hunter McAllister went five and a third innings on the hill, giving up 11 runs, four earned, off eight hits, with five walks and four strikeouts, while Jeremiah Weir relieved for an inning and two-thirds, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

Hunter McAllister had a solo home run and a single for the E-Hawks, while Nick Krieg had a double and Lex Kassel, Dylan Kibbie and Nick Schany all added base hits to the effort.
