Emmetsburg Boys Blanked By Pocahontas

Emmetsburg's Boys of Summer played host to Pocahontas Area on Friday night and ended up on a wrong side of a 7-0 decision. The loss dropped the E-Hawks to a mark of 8-7 overall on the season.

Emmetsburg would strand Ben Dunlap at second after a base hit in the top of the first, but the Indians would also strand a runner in their half of the inning. Lex Kassel opened the second inning with a walk, and made his way to third base, only to be stranded when the at-bat ended. Pocahontas Area would load the bases off a fielders' choice, single and a walk, but left the trio stranded to end the second inning.

The E-Hawks would be retired in order in the top of the third, and the Indians would push two runs over the plate and then left the bases loaded a second time for a 2-0 lead to start the fourth inning.

Once again, the E-Hawks would be retired in order after Nick Schany led off with a single but was put out on a double play of Jeremiah Weir's at-bat. The Indians would tack on three more runs in their half of the fourth inning, but left a runner waiting at second base to end the frame.

Now trailing 5-0 in the fifth inning, Emmetsburg would get Hunter Murphy on base after being hit by a pitch, but he was left waiting when the at-bat ended. The Indians would go down in order in the bottom of the inning, leaving the score standing a 5-0.

Emmetsburg went down two outs in the top of the sixth, but got Nick Schany on base off a walk, only to strand him once again. Pocahontas Area would push two more runs over the plate in the bottom of the sixth but stranded a runner once again for a 7-0 lead.

For their final at-bat, Emmetsburg would be struck out in order to end the game in the 7-0 loss.

Corbin Saathoff was charged with the loss, giving up seven runs, five earned, off four hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.

The E-Hawks would hits from Nick Schany and Ben Dunlap in the loss.
