Royalty Crowned To Kick Off St. Pat’s Celebration

A pair of sisters earned two of the Irish Royalty crowns during Sunday afternoon's Miss Shamrock and Little Miss Shamrock Pageants in Emmetsburg.

Aleya Bleuer of Emmetsburg was crowned the Little Miss Shamrock, while Audrianna VanHeuvelen of Emmetsburg was crowned as the Little Lassie. Jenna Joyce of Graettinger was selected as the Irish Miss and Hannah VanHuevelen had the tiara placed on her head as Miss Shamrock 2018 by last year's Miss Shamrock, Allison Merrill.

Prior to the crowning, the presentation of the Miss Congeniality Award was made to the Miss Shamrock candidate selected by her fellow contestants as the most helpful and friendliest contestant. Mary Nelson of Emmetsburg was presented with the special award by Aleya Bleuer, a grandchild of the late Dick and Pat Higgins. The Higgins Family sponsors the award annually in memory of Dick and Pat Higgins.

2018 ST. PAT’S?ROYALTY - St. Pat’s week began Sunday afternoon with the crowning of the Royal Court for the 2018 celebration. With the five candidates for Miss Shamrock nervously awaiting the final announcement, Master of Ceremonies Kevin Tlam, with assistance from the 2017 titleholder Allison Merrill, announced Mary Nelson, the 18-year old daughter of Jim and Diane Nelson of Emmetsburg as the First Runner up. Nelson performed a humorous reading as her talent presentation.

For the title of Miss Shamrock 2018, 17-year old Hannah VanHeuvelen of Emmetsburg had the crown placed on her head to conclude the ceremonies. The daughter of Dave and Laura VanHuevelen of Emmetsburg. Hannah performed a vocal solo to "King of the World."

For the crowning of the Junior Miss titleholders, Tlam began by inviting the six Little Miss candidates to the stage and announced Aleya Bleuer, the daughter of Rachel Bleuer and Tyler Stockwell and Bill Bleuer as the new Little Miss. Aleya sang "I'm a Little Leprechaun."

The six Little Lassie candidates then took the stage, where Audrianna VanHeuvelen was crowned as the new Little Lassie. Audrianna is the daughter of Dave and Laura VanHeuvelen and "Down By the River."

The four contestants for Irish Miss came to the stage and Tlam announced the name of Jenna Joyce as the new Irish Miss. Jenna is the daughter of Jerry and Angie Joyce of Graettinger and did a Jazz Dance to "Faith."

As part of the program, personal interviews with each contestant at all four age levels were conducted earlier in the afternoon by the panel of judges, who also evaluated each contestant on their talent presentation as well. Serving as the judges were Latasha Bruhn of Fenton, Courtney Cook of Graettinger and Stacy Nachreiner of Emmetsburg. Glenda Bleckwenn served as the auditor for the judges, while Brennan Duhn and Dylan Kibbie served as escorts for the Miss Shamrock contestants.

Several visiting Queens were also introduced during the program, including Emmetsburg Homecoming Queen 2017 Emily Fuller, Graettinger-Terril Homecoming Queen 2017 Madison Norris, Miss Graettinger 2017 Taylor Park and the 2017 Palo Alto County Fair Queen , Anna Sorenson.
