E-Hawk Teams Down St. Mary’s

Emmetsburg's E-Hawk basketball teams claimed a pair of wins over squads from Storm Lake St. Mary's last Friday evening, Feb. 2.

The Lady E-Hawks earned a 62- 30 victory over the St. Mary's girls, while the E-Hawks collected a 55-38 win over the Panthers.

The win improves the Lady E-Hawks to a mark of 14-5 overall and 9-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference, while the E-Hawks improved to 7-12 overall and 4-7 in league play with the win.

The girls game saw Emmetsburg jump out to a 16-9 lead after the opening quarter and then expand their lead to 34-18 at the half time break. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady E-Hawks led by a 53-20 score and the reserves would finish out the game for the 62-30 win.

For Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks, Molly Schany racked up the double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Lindsay Carter added 12 points. Abbie Schany chipped in eight points and Raven Brown scored seven points, while Gretchen Hofstad added six points. Somer Hudson would add five points, while Hailey Foxhoven scored four points while Baylee Lundgren rounded out the effort with two points.

The boys contest saw a more even contest as the E-Hawks and Panthers played evenly through the first quarter, with Emmetsburg posting an 11-9 lead after one quarter and managed to edge out to a 23-17 advantage at the intermission. In the second half, Emmetsburg began to build on their lead with some good defensive play and held a 38-27 lead to go into the final quarter, where they maintained a comfortable lead to earn the 55-38 victory.

Blake VerMulm would earn the double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Zach Mason added 10 points. Tim Geelan scored seven points, with Ben Dunlap and Dylan Kibbie both scoring five points each.

Corbin Saathoff tallied four points, with Alex Gram-owski adding three points and Clayton Swanson and Hunter McAllister both scoring two points each and Jace Carlson scored one point.
