Titan Girls Drop Pair Of Contests

GRAETTINGER - The Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire dropped a pair of games last week on the basketball court. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, GT/RA?fell to Newell-Fonda by a 51-62 tally, but played tough in a 57-50 loss to Sioux Central on Friday night. The losses give the Titans a mark of 6-5 in the Twin Lakes conference race and 14-8 overall.

In Tuesday's matchup with the Mustangs of Newell-Fonda, GT/RA would trail 12-8 after the first quarter of play, and at the half-time break, Newell-Fonda held a 34-25 lead over the Titans. In the third quarter, the Titans tired to catch up but trailed 35-50 to start the final quarter. Down the stretch, GT/RA outscored Newell-Fonda 16-12 but could come no closer than the 51-62 final score.

Madison Hough would lead the offense in the effort with 14 points, while Toni Alesch added 11 points. Taylor Park, Madison Norris and Anna Sorenson would all score seven points each, while Emma Heinrichs scored four points and Chloe Bakken added one point.

Friday evening the Titans squared off with Sioux Central and were narrowly edged in a 57-50 decision.

The Titans would trail 15-11 at the end of the opening quarter and were on the wrong side of a 32-23 score at the half time break. In the third quarter, GT/RA outscored Sioux Central 17-9 to cut the deficit to a point, 40-41. But down the stretch, Sioux Central would outscore the Titans 16-10 to claim the 57-50 win.

For Graettinger-Terril/Ruth-ven-Ayrshire, Anna Sorenson and Toni Alesch both racked up double-doubles with 11 points each and 10 rebounds apiece. Taylor Park added 10 points, while Madison Hough scored six points and Madison Norris and Emma Heinrichs both added five points each. Chloe Bakken added two points.
