Titan Wrestlers Win Lynn Moody Invitational

POCAHONTAS?- Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's Titan wrestlers captured the top honors in Saturday's Lynn Moody Invitational with seven individual championships. The Titans outdistanced the field with 259 team points to win the title.

Leading the way for the Titans were champions Brock Grimm at 120 pounds, Lucas Hoffman at 132 pounds, Kolton Roth at 138 pounds, Spencer Roth at 152 pounds, Nate Larson at 160 pounds, Treyton Cacek at 170 pounds and Carter Murray at 182 pounds.

The Titans got a second place from Cade Stearns at 106 and Monte Matthews at 113 pounds and third place finishes from Hunter Naig at 126 and Blake Miller at 195 pounds, while Blake Schany a t145, Cade Steelman at 220 and Kyle Rehm at 285 finished fourth.

At 120 pounds, Brock Grimm had a first round bye and scored a :55 win by fall before pinning Jordan Jensen of Humboldt in 1:24 for the title.

Lucas Hoffman would start with a bye and earned :25 win by fall before taking the 132 pound title with a 10-2 Major Decision over Max Meyers of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.

At 138, Kolton Roth drew a first round bye and earned a 1:51 win by fall before earning a 16-0 Technical Fall in 5:57 over Jacob Nilles of Humboldt for the championship.

In action at 152 pounds, Spencer Roth opened with a 3:58 win by fall and then scored a 3:37 win by fall before winning a 6-2 decision over Chandler Witzke of Pocahontas Area for the title.

Nate Larson, wrestling at 160 pounds, drew a bye in the opening round and won a 1-0 decision in the semi-finals before winning a 9-8 Tiebreaker decision over Conner Ferd of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate to claim the championship.

At 170 pounds, Treyton Cacek drew a bye to start and earned a 1:24 win by fall before winning the title with a 4:21 win by fall over Alex DeRoos of Alta-Aurelia.

Carter Murray, wrestling at 182 pounds, opened with a 1:01 win by fall and then collected a 19-3 Technical Fall in 2:00 before winning the title with a :45 win by fall over Cole Dickey of West Bend-Mallard/Gil-more City-Bradgate.

Cade Stearns would open action at 106 pounds with a bye, and earned a 15-4 Major Decision win, but in the finals match, lost a 20-4 Technical Fall in 3:56 to Jacob Mielke of Pocahontas Area to finish second.

At 113 pounds, Monte Matthews drew a bye in the first round and scored a 14-2 Major Decision before he lost a 7-5 decision to Same Sherkenbach of Alta-Aurelia to settle for the runner-up honors.

Hunter Naig, wrestling at 126 pounds, started with an 8-2 decision win and then was pinned in :55 to drop into the consolation bracket. Naig would earned a 6-0 decision and in the consolation final, scored a 4-0 decision win over Connor Jensen to place third.

At 195 pounds, Blake Miller had an opening round bye, but would lose a 15-2 Major Decision. In the consolation matches, Miller received a bye and went on to earn third place with a win by forfeit.

Blake Schany opened the day at 145 pounds with a 13-12 decision, but would lose a 15-4 Major Decision before earning a 3:57 win by fall. In the consolation final, Schany lost a 2-1 Tie Breaker decision to place fourth.

Cade Steelman started with a 2:37 win by fall, but was then pinned in 5:36 before coming back to earn a 3:30 win by fall, only to be pinned in 4:39 by Colton Willis of South Hamilton in the consolation final to finish fourth for the Titans at 220 pounds.

And at 285, Kyle Rehm would be pinned in 2:59 to open the tourney, but received a bye and earned a 2:27 win by fall before he was pinned in 1:01 of the consolation final by Dalton Woosley of Alta-Aurelia to finish fourth.

The Titans will be in action this Saturday, Feb. 3, in the Class 1A Sectional Tournament at Emmetsburg. Action begins at 12 noon.
