E-Hawks, Wolverines Square-Off On Hardwood

The in-county matchup between Emmetsburg and West Bend-Mallard/Gil-more City-Bradgate on Friday night saw the host E-Hawk teams earn the sweep in the league matches.

In the girls' contest, Emmetsburg would claim a 47-25 victory, while the E-Hawk boys earned a 69-34 decision over the Wolverines.

In the girls' contest, the Lady Wolverines took an early 8-6 lead over Emmetsburg to start the contest, but the two teams would struggle offensively in the second quarter before Emmetsburg took a 16-11 lead at the half. In the third quarter, Emmetsburg opened up a lead, outscoring the Lady Wolverines 19-4 for a 35-15 lead and in the final quarter, scored 12 points to the Lady Wolverines' 10 points for the 47-25 final score.

Emmetsburg would get 16 points from Molly Schany and 12 points from Abbie Schany, while Raven Brown added eight points. Lindsay Carter tallied five points, with Hailey Foxhoven adding three points. Taylor Steinkamp had two points and Gretchen Hofstad added one points.

In the boys contest, Emmetsburg jumped out to a huge 24-6 lead in the opening quarter as the E-Hawk defense came up with stop after stop, while the Wolverines battled to get inside for shots.

The second quarter saw Emmetsburg hold on to a 38-18 advantage at the half, and in the third frame, the E-Hawks extended their lead to 54-28 and then cruise to the 69-34 final tally.

For the E-Hawks, Hunter McAllister had 17 points, with Blake VerMulm scoring 14 points and Zach Mason adding 10 points.

Tim Geelan chipped in eight points, with Dylan Kibbie adding seven markers. Corbin Saathoff, Alex Gramowski and Adam Deitering all tallied three points each, while Clayton Swanson and Ben Dunlap both added two points each.

For WBM/GCB, Dan Riesenberg led the offense with 12 points, while Cole Hoskins scored 10 points. Nick Ford added six points, while Noah Fehr and Thomas Fehr both scored three points each in the effort.

The win improves Emmetsburg to 5-12 overall and 2-7 in the Twin Lakes, while West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate falls to 1-8 in the league and 3-12 overall.

Emmetsburg entertains Alta-Aurelia tonight, Tuesday, while the Wolverines entertain Manson Northwest Webster.
