Titan Wrestlers Earn 11th Place At Herb Irgens Invitational

DA?GROVE - The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titan wrestlers earned an 11th place finish at last weekend's Herb IRgens Invitational, scoring a total of 80 team points in the event. A?total of 24 teams participated in the two-day event, which was won by Gilbertville-Don Bosco.

The top finishes for the Titans would come in a pair of third place efforts from Kolton Roth and Treyton Cacek.

At 138 pounds, Kolton Roth opened with a bye before earning a 19-2 Technical Fall in 5:39 of his second match. In the Quarterfinals, Roth earned a 2:46 win by fall, but in the semi-finals, Roth would come up short in a 6-1 decision loss. Moving into the consolation brackets, Roth earned 15-0 Technical Fall in 3:39 to advance to the Consolation championship match, where he earned an 11-6 decision victory over Spencer Griffin of Emmetsburg for the third place finish.

Treyton Cacek, wrestling at 170 pounds, opened his tournament with a :52 win by fall and then scored a 5:07 win by fall before winning a quarterfinal match with a 1:54 win by fall. But in the semi-finals, Cacek lost an 8-4 decision before scoring a 9-6 decision win in consolation to move to the Consolation Championship. Cacek would win third place by earning an 11-3 Major Decision over Jake Dennison of Woodbury Central.

At 113 pounds, GT/RA?would get a seventh place finish from Monte Matthews. Matthews received an opening round bye and then earned a 2:16 win by fall before he lost a 19-4 Technical Fall in 3:55. Moving into consolation brackets, Matthews scored a 4-1 decision win but was pinned in 2:51. In the seventh place match, Matthews would come away with a 12-6 decision victory over Caden Neumann of Carroll for the placing.

Cade Stearns, wrestling at 106 pounds, would finish eighth for the Titans after starting out with a bye. Stearns would earn a 4-3 decision but was pinned in 5:18. Stearns would come back to earn a 5:05 win by fall, but was pinned in 2:42. In the seventh place match, Stearns would be pinned in 5:28 to finish in eighth place.

A 120 pounds, Brock Grimm opened with a bye but lost a 5-2 decision in his second match. Grimm would get a bye in the first consolation match, and then earned a 2:19 win by fall before losing a 4-2 decision. In the seventh place match, Grimm would come up short in an 11-7 decision loss to Casey Beaver of Woodbury Central to finish in eighth place.

Lucas Hoffman would also earn and eighth place finish for GT/RA as he also received an opening round bye. Hoffman would earn a 4-2 decision win before losing a 6-0 decision in the quarterfinals. In consolation action, Hoffman scored a 12-8 decision before losing a 16-13 Tie Breaker decision. In the seventh place match, Hoffman would lose a 13-0 Major Decision to Nate Monahan of Woodbury Central to finish in eighth place.

At 126 pounds, Hunter Naig opened with a 5:21 win by fall, but was pinned in :58. Naig would get a bye in consolation action and earned a 2:15 win by fall, but was eliminated from the tournament when he was pinned in 3:31 by Damon Williams of Cherokee.

Blake Schany, wrestling at 145 pounds, had an opening round bye, but lost a 15-0 Technical Fall in 3:57. Schany would be eliminated from the tournament after he lost a 7-1 decision to Tyler Wittrock of Okoboji.

In action at 152 pounds, Spencer Roth earned a 17-6 Major Decision win to start the tournament, but lost a 13-3 Major Decision before scoring a 4:#1 win by fall. However, Roth would be eliminated from the tournament when he came up short in a 7-5 decision loss to Payton Klarenbeek of West Lyon.

For Nate Larson at 160 pounds, an opening round by was followed up with a 10-0 Major Decision loss. In consolation, Larson received a bye, but would be eliminated from the tournament when he lost a 7-3 decision at the hands of Adam Skopec of Spirit Lake Park.

At 182 pounds, Cade Steelman had a first-round bye, but was pinned in 2:43 before he scored a 1:23 win by fall and a 5:17 win by fall. But Steelman would see his tournament appearance end when he was pinned in 4:50 of his match with Christian Wolthuizen of Akron-Westfield.

In action at 195 pounds, Blake Miller had a first round bye and won a 14-5 Major Decision, but was pinned in 4:22 and then eliminated from action when he was pinned in 3:56 by Luke Mosinski of Audubon.

Nole Bochmann, wrestling at 220 pounds, was pinned in 1:38 of his opening match and received a bye in first round consolation, but was eliminated from the tournament when he was pinned in 2:37 by Max Halvorson of Spirit Lake Park.

Rounding out the Titans' efforts at 285 pounds was Kyle Rehm. Rehm also received an opening round bye, but was pinned in :56 and received a pair of byes in consolation. rounds, but he would be eliminated from the tournament when he was pinned in 3:35 by Josh Luft of Carroll.
