E-Hawk Grappers Stay Perfect With Triangular Wins

GOWRIE - Emmetsburg's E-Hawk wrestling team closed out the first half of their season unbeaten in duals after sweeping a Twin triangular at Southeast Valley Tuesday night.

The E-Hawks blanked South Hamilton by a 77-0 score and then Southeast Valley 41-29 before finishing out the night with a 70-5 win over East Sac County.

Against South Hamilton, the E-Hawks won every match, starting at 195 as Nick Schany pinned Dominic Summers in :50. At 220, Jimmie Steffens pinned Zach Larson in 1:01 and at 285, Evan Brennan earned a 1:03 win by fall over Colton Willis.

In action at 106, Kelly Griffin earned a 1:10 win by fall over Mohamed Yokle before Sean Brennan earned an 11-6 decision win over Heston Strohman in the 113 pound match.

At 120 pounds, Christian Nichols won an 18-5 Technical Fall in 4:53 over Jamie Hildreth and Levi Aldous earned a 1:34 win by fall over Jose Galdeano at 126.

Ethan Berven took a 1:43 win by fall over Tristan Cleveland at 132 and at 138, Spencer Griffin won by a forfeit

At 145, Brad Wirtz took a 2:59 win by fall over Trevor Thompson and at 152, Bret Hoyman pined Ethan Young in 1:56. Mason Griffin earned a 4-1 decision win over Nathan Wilson at 160 and at 170, Jackson Knight earned a 3:38 win by fall over Nate Laube before Jon Lace earned a win by forfeit at 182 for the 77-0 win.

The E-Hawks then defeated Southeast Valley 41-29.

Jimmie Steffens would lose a 10-6 decision to Xavier Nichols at 220, and at 285, Evan Brennan was pinned in 1:24 by Clayton McFarland at 285 before Kelly Griffin received a forfeit at 106. At 113, Sean Brennan was pinned in :38 by Colden Bethel.

Christian Nichols pinned Mason Goodwin in 1:25 at 120 pounds and at 126, Levi Aldous pinned Same Hemmestad in 3:11 before Ethan Berven won by forfeit at 132.

At 138, Spencer Griffin won a 9-2 decision over Trey Lawrence and at 145, Bret Hoyman earned a 17-7 Major Decision over Colton Klingston. Mason Griffin pinned Evan McCrady in :22 at 152 and at 160, Jackson Knight earned a 9-0 Major Decision over Alex Pudenz.

Jon Lace lost a 2-0 decision to Carter Fluckiger at 170 and at 182, Nick Schany lost a 24-9 Technical Fall in 4:29 to Kyler Fisher.

At 195 pounds, the E-Hawks would forfeit to Jaxon Carlson to close out the match and take the 41-29 win.

In Junior Varsity matches, Brad Wirtz scored a :56 win by fall over Chase Kamp at 145 and then earned a :35 win by fall over Jonah Siebert before Nick Krieg was pinned in :54 by Noble Nowell at 160 pounds.

In the final dual of the night, Emmetsburg defeated East Sac County by a 70-5 final score.

Starting at 106 pounds, Kelly Griffin earned a 5:28 win by fall over Peyton Wunschel and at 113 pounds, Sean Brennan scored a 3:36 win by fall over Jacob Gergis. At 120 pounds, Christian Nichols earned a 5:00 win by fall over Matthew Hedberg before Levi Aldous earned a win by forfeit at 126 pounds.

In the 132 pound match, Ethan Berven scored a 12-2 Major Decision victory over Dawson Mack and at 138 pounds, Spencer Griffin scored a 1:08 win by fall over Maxwell Jessen.

Bret Hoyman would receive a win by forfeit in action at 145 pounds and at 152 pounds, Mason Griffin earned a 3-1 Sudden victory decision over Garret Bruce. At 160, Nick Krieg won a 4-3 decision over Charlie Langner and at 170, Jackson Knight pinned Gabe Gagliasso in :39.

Jon Lace pinned Lane Snyder in :29 at 182 and at 195, Nick Schany pinned Austin Corbin in :36. Jimmie Steffens pinned Jadden Harper in 2:53 of the 220 pound match and at 285, Evan Brennan was pinned in 4:00 by Kipp Corbin, but East Sac had a team point deducted for unsportsmanlike conduct.
