E-Hawks Wrestle At Don Nelson Fort Dodge Invitational

FORT?DODGE - Emmetsburg's E-Hawks collected three second place finishes at Saturday's Don Nelson Invitational at Fort Dodge.

Christian Nichols at 120, Levi Aldous at 126 and Spencer Griffin at 138 pounds would all earn the runner-up finishes on Saturday to pace the E-Hawk grapplers.

Emmetsburg also got a fourth place, a trio of fifth place finishes, a pair of sixth place finishes along with a seventh and two eighth place finishes.

At 120, Christian Nichols would get a first round bye and earned a :45 win by fall before taking an 8-1 decision to move to the championship round, where he was pinned in :59 by Drake Doolittle of Webster City to place second.

Levi Aldous, wrestling at 126, had a first round bye and earned a 4:53 win by fall and 2-1 tiebreaker match before he lost a17-2 Technical Fall in 2:37 to Brody Teske of Fort Dodge to finish second.

At 138, Spencer Griffin had a bye and got a 1:07 win by fall before taking a 13-6 decision, but lost a 7-4 decision in the finals to Drevon Ross of Fort Dodge.

Ethan Berven took fourth place at 132 pounds with a bye and then lost a 4-1 decision before earning wins by falls in 1:30 and 4:37. In the consolation final, Berven would lose a 9-4 decision to Nate Monahan of Woodbury Central to place fourth.

At 152, Mason Griffin had a bye, but lost an 8-7 decision before getting a by and earning a 13-5 Major Decision. A 5-2 decision win would move Griffin to the fifth place match where he won by injury default over Garrett Arment of Woodbury Central.

Jon Lace at 170 pounds had a bye but was pinned in 3:11 before he earned a bye and won a 5-1 decision and then scored a 2:53 win by fall. In the fifth place match, Lace would go on win the fifth place finish with a 4:00 injury default win over Ryan Higgins of Council Bluffs Lewis Central.

Also finishing in fifth place on Saturday was Jimmie Steffens at 220 pounds. Stiffens started with a by and earned a 3:22 win by fall, but would be pinned in 2:23 to move to the consolation bracket, where he lost a 13-2 Major decision. But in the fifth place match, Steffens would earn the placing with a 10-4 decision victory over Blake Willey of Dallas Center-Grimes.

In action at 145 pounds, Bret Hoyman started with a bye but would lose a 10-4 decision before he earned a5:57 win by fall and then earned a 12-0 Major Decision. But Hoyman would be pinned in 1:04 of the consolation semi final and in the fifth place match, he would be pinned in 5:05 by Bain Broderick of Dallas Center-Grimes to finish in sixth place.

At 160 pounds, Jackson Knight would start the tournament with a 3:11 win by fall, and then earned a 7-6 decision victory, but would be pinned in :47 in the semi-finals to drop into the consolation bracket. Knight would be pinned in 1:17 in the consolation semi-final and in the fifth place match, King was pinned in 5:00 by Patrick Fischer of Sioux City East to settle for sixth place.

Nick Schany, wrestling at 182 pounds for the E-Hawks, would start with a 3:49 win by fall, but was pinned in 1:48 before receiving a bye in the consolation round. Schany would be the victim of a 3:08 fall, but in the seventh place match, came back to earn a 3:56 win by fall over Austin Lee of Fort Dodge to claim seventh place.

At 113 pounds, Sean Brennan would get an opening round bye, but was pinned in 4:57 of his quarterfinal match. After a bye in the consolation round, Brennan would come up short in a 10-2 Major Decision loss to move into the seventh place match. Brennan would wrestle Casey Beaver of Woodbury Central but would be pinned in :31 to finish in eighth place.

Rounding out Emmetsburg's appearance on Saturday was Evan Brennan at 285 pounds. Brennan earned an injury default at the 5:28 mark of his opening round match, but would be the victim of a 5:51 pin in the quarterfinals. Moving into the consolation round, Brennan drew a first round bye, but would be pinned in 1:42 by Logan Finowski of Fort Dodge to send him to the seventh place match, where he would come up short in an 8-4 decision loss to John Bauer to finish in eighth place.

The E-Hawks will wrestle at Southeast Valley (Gowrie) this Tuesday night, Dec. 19 with East Sac and South Hamilton.
