STORM?LAKE - Emmetsburg's E-Hawk boys basketball team journeyed to Storm Lake last Tuesday night, Dec. 5, and came home on the wrong end of a 50-44 setback in non-conference basketball action.

Storm Lake tried to get out to a fast start in the contest, taking a 16-11 lead in the opening stanza of play, but the E-Hawks would battle hard to stay close.

In the second quarter, Emmetsburg would actually outscore the Tornadoes by a 13-11 margin to cut the deficit to three points, 24-27 at the halftime break.

But in the third quarter, Storm Lake's defense cranked up the pressure a notch and forced several turnovers for the E-Hawks. Emmetsburg would manage to score just nine points in the third frame to trail the Tornadoes by a 33-46 margin to start the final eight minutes of play.

Down the stretch, Emmetsburg would come back to outscore Storm Lake by an 11-4 margin, but it was a case of too little too late as the Tornadoes would go on to claim the six-point, 50-44 win as Emmetsburg ran out of time in their comeback bid.

For the E-Hawks, Hunter McAllister led the effort with 16 points, while Blake VerMulm added 15 markers. Zach Mason, Dylan Kibbie and Tim Geelan all scored three points each, while Clayton Swanson would come away with two points in the final effort for Emmetsburg.
