Soil Testing No longer available from Iowa State University

December 7, 2017
Emmetsburg News

The Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University has offered soil, plant, water and environmental testing services for over 35 years. Farmers, fruit and vegetable growers, landscape managers, home gardeners, extension specialists and researchers submitted samples to the lab to help them understand their local conditions and make sustainable management decisions.

However, in recent years a combination of decreasing sample submissions and aging equipment has impacted the lab's ability to serve customers in a timely and cost-effective manner.

That is why, effective December 31, 2017, the Soil and Plant Analysis Lab will be closing so that we can refocus its efforts internally to support soil science research by agronomy faculty. Before this occurs, the lab will complete tests on samples submitted during the current post-harvest sampling season. The lab will accept no new samples after December 15, 2017.

We appreciate the past support for the laboratory. With this new transition, the lab will continue to serve Iowans through the support of research of agronomy faculty in their efforts to advance crop production systems while protecting and improving air, soil and water quality.
