School Board To Continue Sharing Agreement

No Changes Planned For Superintendent Sharing

November 21, 2017
by Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

Members of the Emmetsburg Community School Board of Education agreed to continue a sharing arrangement for Superintendent Amanda Schmidt without changes at their November 13 meeting. Board members had created a committee to look into sharing and obtain public input on the district's current administrative sharing arrangement, which has been in effect four years.

Board President Jane Hoyman initiated the discussion by reviewing the history of the committee's efforts, which included a meeting in September with the district's Leadership Team, which was positive in support of continuation of the agreement.

A committee comprised of Hoyman and board members Kathy Roethler and Pete Hamilton obtained information from other school districts on sharing of positions, and a public forum was conducted to allow community members to provide their input. That forum also expressed support for continuing the agreement.

"From everything we've received and heard, does anyone feel there is a need for a change?" Hoyman asked the board. "Our current agreement runs through June 30, 2019."

"I never understood why we even had the conversation," Board member Kathy Roethler said. "I think Amanda has done an excellent job."

Hearing no further comments, Hoyman continued. "I don't see a need for a change, so I feel we should just continue as is."

"If there are any issues you wish to address, I'd suggest we begin talking soon, before the February 1st deadline,"?noted Schmidt.

"Yes, that would be appropriate," noted Hamilton, "otherwise the agreement continues on annually."

"Otherwise, next Fall, we will re-address the contract again,"?Hoyman said,

"I'd like to thank the committee for their work and information on this issue,"?noted Board member Dan Chism.

"I'd also like to thank the public for their input and support on this as well," Hoyman said. bringing the discussion to a close.
