The students were nominated by their directors and were put into a pool of hundreds of students from North Central Iowa schools. Members of the NCIBA gathered for a selection night on Sept. 20 at West Hancock High School in Britt. Area directors read through nominations and selected the students they felt would be the top representatives for our district.

After students were selected, they received music to prepare for chair placement auditions, which will be held on Nov. 11.

Each musician will need to memorize seven scales, prepare an etude, and practice the pieces chosen for their band.

On Nov. 11, the musicians will gather to rehearse all day prior to presenting the 5:00 p.m. concert.

Directors of the Honor Band are Dr. Michael Golemo, Director of Bands at Iowa State University, and Steve Shanley, Assistant Professor of Music at Coe College. These two directors were commissioned to write two new pieces for this honor band, and the premiere of these works will take place during the Honor Band concert.

Annika Poeppe and Olivia Lace will play flute, while Shalaki Soukup and Isabel Doyle will play clarinet. Quinn Swift will play trumpet and Mattie Dooley will play saxophone during the concert.

Emmetsburg's musicians are under the direction of Ms. Sage Lenertz and Ms. Holly Prier.
