E-Hawks Travel To Alta-Aurelia Friday Night

October 5, 2017
by Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

With the regular season winding down, Emmetsburg's E-Hawks are sitting at 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in Class 1A District One play. The E-Hawks sit in third place with a 3-1 mark behind West Lyon and Western Christian. However, the E-Hawks' final three games of the season each present major challenges, starting with this Friday's match up against the Warriors of Alta-Aurelia.

"They are a 4-3 blitzing defense," Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap said. "They will bring pressure from anywhere all game long."

According to Dunlap, the Warriors return nearly all of their lineup from last season. "They have good size and speed, bringing a lot of their people back from last year."

On the other side of the ball, the Warriors will bring a different look than most of Emmetsburg's opponents so far this season.

"They run offensively out of the Wishbone, and are about 88 percent run oriented and 12 percent pass oriented."

With an almost mirror image lining up across the line of scrimmage, the E-Hawks will have a stiff challenge in Alta on Friday night.

"They are as good as athletes as we have played all season,"?Dunlap stated.

In looking back at last Friday's Homecoming win, Dunlap was pleased with the overall effort of the E-Hawks.

"I thought we continued to improve in all three aspects of our game - offense, defense and special teams," the E-Hawk mentor admitted. "I also felt we are becoming a more consistent football team in our level of play."

With games against Hinton and West Lyon still to come, the E-Hawks need to take one game at a time, a fact not lost on Dunlap.

"We had a great team effort in our win last Friday, but for us this week and beyond, we just have to continue to improve and to take care of our own business."
