Emmetsburg Ready For Homecoming Week

Homecoming season is in full swing at area high schools and Homecoming Week at Emmetsburg High School will ramp up this coming Monday with a variety of activities and events that will culminate on Friday evening with the E-Hawks' Homecoming football game against Unity Christian of Orange City

Homecoming Week actually begins this Saturday, Sept. 23 when students will be able to decorate the Emmetsburg High School building for Homecoming. The week's activities continue on Monday, Sept. 25 with students observing various theme days that will allow for dressing to fit the theme of the day. Monday will be Pajama Day, allowing them to dress up in their favorite "jammies". A?pep rally will take place during the school day for students, The Middle School, JV?and Varsity Cross Country teams will run at the Algona invitational starting at 4 p.m. and there will be Freshman and Junior Varsity Football at Western Christian starting at 5:30 p.m., along with Freshman, JV and Varsity Volleyball against Graettinger Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in Emmetsburg at 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday's theme will be America Day. Attire can represent each student's vision of America.

Tuesday evening, the Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity volleyball teams will play at Sioux Central starting at 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, students will wear their class colors, with each class having assigned colors for that day. Freshmen will wear gold while Sophomores will wear blue. Juniors will be decked out in white and Seniors will wear black for their color.

The annual Homeroom Olympics are planned for Wednesday afternoon and on Wednesday evening, the second annual Powder Puff Football game will take place at 7 p.m. on Duane Twait Field. The Senior girls will square off against their

Activities continue on Thursday, Sept 28, with Farmer Day, a day to wear their best farmer's attire during the day.

Thursday evening the intensity of Homecoming ramps up with the annual Coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Candidates for Homecoming Queen are Emma Anderson, daughter of Chad and Roberta Anderson; Maggie Jackson, the daughter of Dan and Michelle Jackson; Natalie Kliegl, the daughter of Rhonda Kliegl and Bob Kliegl and Emily Fuller, the daughter of Jodi Fuller and Bart Fuller.

King Candidates are Adam Berkland, the son of Cathy Haviland and the late Roger Berkland; Dylan Kibbie, the son of Scott and Kim Kibbie; Jackson Knight, the son of Mike and Tricia Knight and Jimmie Steffens, the son of the late Brenda Steffens.

Crown bearers for the Homecoming court will be Liza Saxton, the daughter of Joel and Somer Saxton and Vince Nelson, the son of Bruce and Jana Nelson.

Freshman Class attendants are Amber Embrock, the daughter of Mike and Susan Embrock and Colby Weir, the son of Ann Zeigler and Robert Weir.

Sophomore Class attendants are Logan White, the daughter of Mark and Shelley White and Gerard Ruiz, the son of Gerald and Kristin Ruiz.

The Junior Class attendants are Kaitlyn Jamison the daughter of John Jamison and Spencer Griffin, the son of Tom and Sheila Griffin.

The coronation will feature a performance by the E-Hawk Cheer Squad, along with musical performances by the Emmetsburg High School Band, under the direction of Ms. Holly Prier and the Emmetsburg Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. Jason Behrens.

Presenting the Homecoming address will be EHS?Alumni and current EHS?instructor, Mr. Arik Kerr.

The 2016 Homecoming Queen, Sarah Pugh, will crown the new King, while Carson Clark, 2016's Homecoming King, will crown the new queen.

At the conclusion of the coronation, the annual Booster Club Jersey Auction will take place in the Auditorium. The jerseys of the varsity E-Hawk Football players will be "auctioned" to the highest bidders to be worn by fans at Friday's Homecoming game.

Friday of Homecoming week will be Black and Gold Day throughout the community, with E-Hawk pride the rule of the day. All students and fans of the E-Hawks are urged to wear their E-Hawk clothing. Activities get underway at 2:30 p.m. downtown with the annual Homecoming tailgate, sponsored by the Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce and member businesses.

The Homecoming Parade will begin at 2:45 p.m. at Soper Park and will proceed south down Broadway to 11th Street, and the community Pep Rally will follow in Courthouse Square. The week's activities will cap off at 7 p.m. Friday with the Homecoming Football game at Duane Twait Field with the Knights of Unity Christian. Following the game, the Homecoming Dance will take place at the High School.
