Lady E-Hawks Fall In Openers

POCAHONTAS - Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks opened their volleyball season Thursday night with a 3-1 loss to Pocahontas Area/Laurens Marathon.

Game scores at Pocahontas were 13-25, 27-25, 15-25 and 22-25.

On Saturday, the Lady E-Hawks journeyed to Humbolt for pool play in the Humboldt Invitational Tournament. Emmetsburg would play six matches over the course of the day and would win two sets out of the 12 sets they would play during the day.

Emmetsburg met Fort Dodge in their first match of the day, and won the first set by a 21-18 score over the Dodgers, but Fort Dodge would come back to win the match by scores of 16-21 and 9-15.

The Lady E-Hawks then squared off against Carroll Kuemper and were defeated in two straight sets by scores of 5-21 ad 6-21.

Against Grand View Christian of Des Moines, the Lady E-Hawks would play close but fell in straight sets by scores of 14-21 and 19-21.

The fourth match of the day saw Emmetsburg meet up with former Lakes Conference rivals Spirit Lake. The Lady E-Hawks went right after Spirit Lake, playing several tough volleys with the Indians before being edged by scores of 18-21 and 23-25.

Meeting South Central Calhoun, one of Emmetsburg's new Twin Lakes Conference opponents, the Lady E-Hawks would fall by scores of 15-21 and 16-21.

In their final match of the day, Emmetsburg squared off against the host Wildcats of Humboldt. The Wildcats would win set one by a 10-21 score, but Emmetsburg rallied to take the second set by a 25-23 tally. But in the deciding third game, Humboldt would come back to take a 15-10 win over Emmetsburg.

The Lady E-Hawks begin Twin Lakes Conference action tonight (Tuesday) as they travel to Storm Lake to take on St. Mary's. The JVmatches will begin at 5:30 with varsity to follow.
