Emmetsburg Celebrates Halfway To Saint Patrick’s Day

It's almost Saint Patrick's Day! Well, almost halfway to St. Pat's but that's something to celebrate! This year, the Emmetsburg Fire Association and St. Pat's Association will be hosting the Halfway to St. Patrick's Celebration from Friday, August 25- Sunday, August 27.

The celebration kicks off on Friday night in Soper Park with food vendors, a beer garden, and a bag's tournament. Vendors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the tournament will begin at 6. A $25 fee will be collected to enter the bags tournament. There will be a radio broadcast of the E-Hawk Football game over the St. Pat's Showmobile sound system. Following the game, One Layne Band (sponsored by Joyce Funeral Home) will take the stage on the showmobile from 9-11 p.m.

Saturday, August 26, starts early with a Disc Golf tournament in Harrison Park at 9a.m. There is an entry $20 entry fee per team. Meanwhile, in Soper Park, Barbecue contestant check in and set up will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A co-ed Volleyball tournament for adults over the age of 18 will be held at the sand volleyball court in Soper Park. Registration for volleyball is due by August 18. Kids activities will begin at 10a.m. in the Shelter House. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the bags, volleyball, and disc golf tournaments. At 10 a.m. kids activities will begin at the shelter house. If you or your kids get hungry, food vendors will be serving in Soper Park north of the beer garden from 10-11 a.m. The public BBQ tasting will start at 5 p.m. for only $5. Come judge some delicious barbeque and have an opportunity to taste BBQ at its finest. The winner of the BBQ contest will win prize money. Mehan Auction Company has sponsored Randy Swanson- a local Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Performer will be performing during the tasting.

At 8 p.m. Brad Morgan Band will take the stage! Brad Morgan was raised in Iowa. He was surrounded by music through all of his childhood, and by the time he was 19, Brad was playing all over the Midwest.

On Sunday, all barbecue meats will be turned in and a winner will be announced at 2 p.m.

Come to Soper Park in Emmetsburg on the shores of beautiful five island like to celebrate halfway to St. Pat's. All proceeds from the event will go to the non-profit sponsors: the Emmetsburg Fire Department and St. Patrick's Association.
