Lady E-Hawks’ Season Ends In Regional Quarterfinal

The softball season ended Wednesday night for Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks in a 7-1 loss to Western Christian. The Regional Quarterfinal loss ends Emmetsburg's season at 14-18 overall.

Wednesday's contest opened with Western Christian stranding a runner in the top of the first, but Emmetsburg would strand Kate Jackson and Molly Schany after they got on base with singles with two outs before a ground out ended the inning.

In the top of the second, Emmetsburg made short work of the Wolfpack, retiring them in order. The Lady E-Hawks came up and opened with a base hit from pinch hitter Emma Anderson, and Morgan Jamison would added a base hit with one out before Lindsay Carter was called out when her bunt hit her for an automatic out. The inning would end on a fly ball leaving Anderson and Jamison waiting for a way home.

Western Christian would go down in order in the top of the third, and Emmetsburg would get Kate Jackson on base after she was it by a pitch, but she was put out at second on Molly Schany's fielder's choice play. But Schany would be left waiting when the inning ended.

In the top of the fourth, Western Christian would lead off with a pair of base hits that would lead to a pair of runs before a base hit with one out followed and scored off an error to give the Wolfpack a 3-0 lead when the at-bat ended.

Emmetsburg would come up in their half of the inning and got a leadoff hit from Emma Anderson, who went to second off a walk of Lindsay Carter with two outs. But a line shot by Macy McAllister ended the inning with Anderson and Schany waiting on base.

Western Christian would get a single with two outs in their half of the fifth inning, but would leave the runner on base when the at-bat ended. Emmetsburg would end up be retired in order in the bottom of the inning, even though Kate Jackson got on base off a single by was put out in a double play of Molly Schany's at-bat to end the inning.

The Wolfpack would come up in the top of the sixth and led off with a base hit before a strikeout. A single would score one run, and then a walk was followed by a double that scored a second run before Emmetsburg's defense made the stop, but not before the Wolfpack had taken a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Emmetsburg would be retired in order, trailing 5-0 to start the final inning.

Western Christian would come up with a leadoff single and a double that would end up scoring both runs on a pair of ground out sacrifices to put the Wolfpack up 7-0 when the at-bat ended.

The Lady E-Hawks needed a huge rally as they came up to bat, but started out with a ground out of Morgan Jamison. Lindsay Carter would come up with a double to the left field fence and was followed on base by Macy McAllister's base hit. Sarah Simington would draw a walk to load the bases before Kate Jackson rapped out an RBI single to score Carter's run and re-load the bases. Molly Schany would strikeout for the second out, but Annie Brennan would hit into a out at first base to end the game and the season with a 7-1 loss.

Mikayla Frerichs would take the loss in the circle, giving up seven runs, six earned, off nine hits, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Emmetsburg would get a double from Lindsay Carter, while Kate Jackson had three base hits. Emma Anderson added two hits and Macy McAllister, Molly Schany and Morgan Jamison all had one hit each.

Emmetsburg bids farewell to senior third baseman Sarah Simington, senior shortstop Kate Jackson and senior outfielder Gillian Nolan, along with Allison Freeman.
