MILFORD - Emmetsburg would take an early 3-0 lead and tacked on an insurance run to outlast Sheldon's Orabs by a 4-3 score Saturday in Class 2A District baseball play. The win advances the E-Hawks into a Semi-final this Tuesday night, July 11, at Estherville against the Midgets of Estherville Lincoln Central. Game time will be at 7 p.m.

Emmetsburg opened Saturday's game with a leadoff single from Dylan Kibbie, who would get to second base on an error but was put out on a double play before the at-bat ended.

The E-Hawks would go down an out to start the second, but an error put Matt Kibbie on base before he was put out at second on a fielders' choice on Max Dunlap's at-bat. Dunlap would move to second off an error on Hunter McAllister's at-bat, but the duo were stranded when Nick Schany flew out.

Sheldon would come up and got a runner on base off an error with two outs, but left their runner waiting when the E-Hawks made the defensive stop.

In the third inning, Emmetsburg batted through the order as Dylan Kibbie led off being hit by a pitch to get on base. Kibbie stole second before a single from Will Schany would bring him home for the first run of the game. Jeremiah Weir would ground out and Connor Joyce struck out, but Brent Wesley powered a single deep into left field to score Schany before Matt Kibbie smacked a double to the left center field fence, scoring Wesley's run.

Max Dunlap would be hit in the helmet by a pitch but was not injured to get on base, and Hunter McAllister was hit by a pitch to load the bases with E-Hawks, but Nick Schany would pop out to end the big at-bat with Emmetsburg holding a 3-0 advantage.

Sheldon would come up in their half of the inning and drew a walk, only to leave the runner waiting at second when the inning ended.

Emmetsburg would be retired in quick order in the top of the fourth inning, and the Orabs would go down one out before getting a runner on base off an error. A walk would follow before a fielders' choice hit to left field loaded the bases. But, on the next batter, a quick line shot to Matt Kibbie was thrown back to catcher Nick Schany for the force at home and Schany fired to Max Dunlap at first for the double play to end the inning.

Connor Joyce would be hit in the helmet by a pitch to leadoff the fifth inning for Emmetsburg, but was uninjured by the blow. Joyce would steal second base, but would be left waiting as the E-Hawks were struck out in order to end the at-bat.

Sheldon led off the bottom of the fifth with a big double and followed it off with a walk before a sacrifice bunt allowed the Orabs to plate their first run of the game. But Sheldon would leave a runner waiting at third after two successive ground outs ended the inning.

Holding a 3-1 advantage to start the sixth inning, Emmetsburg got a leadoff single from Hunter McAllister, who moved to second off Nick Schany's sacrifice bunt. But McAllister would be left looking for a way home when Dylan Kibbie struck out and Will Schany grounded out to end the at-bat.

Sheldon came up in the bottom of the sixth and got a runner on base after being hit by a pitch, but two quick outs would follow before a base hit put runners at first and second, only to be left waiting once again.

Clinging to the 3-1 lead to open the final at-bat, Emmetsburg got a Jeremiah Weir on base off an error to lead off and Weir moved to second off Connor Joyce's sacrifice bunt. A ground out by Brent Wesley put Emmetsburg down two outs, but Matt Kibbie would be hit by a pitch to get on base before Weir came home to score off a wild pitch. Max Dunlap would hit a fly ball deep into left field however that ended the at-bat.

The E-Hawks had to settle in and play defense as Sheldon opened with a strikeout, but got a base hit and a walk before a double scored one run. A single would follow and scored a second run and put runners on first and third.

A strikeout would put Sheldon down two outs before a batter was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but a fly ball to Dylan Kibbie at second base would end the ballgame for the Orabs in the 4-3 loss to the E-Hawks.

Matt Kibbie would go the distance on the hill for the E-Hawks in the win, as he gave up three earned runs off five hits while issuing four walks and striking out three batters.

Emmetsburg would get it's offense from Matt Kibbie with a double, as well as singles from Dylan Kibbie, Will Schany, Brent Wesley and Hunter McAllister in the winning effort, which improved Emmetsburg to 10-15 on the season.
