Lady E-Hawks Rally To Defeat Storm Lake

Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks struggled through four innings to find an offense Wednesday night, but came through in the clutch to earn a 5-3 win over Storm Lake in Lakes Conference action. The win improved the Lady E-Hawks to a mark of 14-16 and 4-8 in the Lakes Conference.

Storm Lake opened the game with a base hit, but ended up leaving their runner stranded to end the at-bat. Emmetsburg came up to bat and drew a base hit for Sarah Simington, who stole second base, only to be stranded when the inning ended.

Storm lake would go down two strikeouts to start the second inning, but got a runner on base off an Emmetsburg error, only to leave the runner waiting once again.

The Lady E-Hawks would go down one out, but got a bunt single from Emma Anderson and a single from Parker Traub. A sacrifice bunt from Raven Brown moved the two runs to scoring position, but they were left stranded when the inning ended.

Storm Lake would break the ice in the top of the third inning with two outs as they got a single and then a long single that would score the first run of the game before stranding a runner.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Emmetsburg would be retired in order.

With the one-run advantage, the Tornadoes would open the fourth with a base hit and with some good baserunning and an error, would push two runs over the plate in their half of the inning before Emmetsburg's defense could make the stop.

Emmetsburg would come up and went down one out before Emma Anderson pushed a base hit to the left field fence. But, the junior would be left waiting when the Lady E-Hawks were retired to trail 3-0

The Tornadoes would go down two outs in the fifth, but got a double before leaving the runner waiting as second looking for a way home.

In the bottom of the fifth, Emmetsburg came up needing something good to happen.

Lindsay Carter led off with a single and was followed by a strikeout by Macy McAllister. A walk of Sarah Simington followed before Kate Jackson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A fielders' choice on Molly Schany's at-bat allowed Carter to scamper home and reload the sacks.

An error on Annie Brennna's at-bat scored Simington's run before a single from Emma Anderson scored Jackson. A?single from Parker Tr and Molly Schany, but courtesy runner Ali Laubenthal was thrown out at home for the second out off a fielders' choice on Raven Brown's at-bat. With two out and the bases still loaded, Lindsay Carter drew a walk that scored Anderson before Macy McAllister struck out to end the big inning.

Now trailing 5-3, Storm Lake would load the bases in their half of the sixth, bu couldn't bring any of the runners home. Emmetsubrg would get a leadoff single from Sarah Simington and a single from Molly Schany, but Simington was thrown out at second and Schany was stranded to end the inning.

In the top of the seventh, Storm Lake would be retired in order to end the game in the 5-3 win for Emmetsburg.

Mikayla Frerichs got the win, as she allowed three unearned runs off eight hits with eight strikeouts.

Emmetsburg would get three hits from Emma Anderson, along with hits from Sarah Simington, Moyy Schany Parker Traub and Lindsay Carter in the winning effort for the Lady E-Hawks.
