July 4, 2017
Emmetsburg News

The country school at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds in Emmetsburg will be hosting a traveling German Iowa exhibit developed by students and professors at the University of?Iowa. It will be on display July 19-22 during the 2017 Palo Alto County Fair.

The traveling exhibit consists of 12 large banners that tell the story of German immigration in Iowa 100 years ago- with an emphasis on World War I soldiers from Iowa.

Laurel Sanders, a professor of history from the University of Iowa will be presenting talks to both youth and adults.

As part of this exhibit, the exhibitioners plan to honor the World War I soldiers from Palo Alto county and are compiling that list at this time.

The hosts of the program have two wishes that they need help with. They are looking for memorabilia from that era especially WWI items to display during that week.

They also are in need of a portable ramp for that week to make the display available to all. If you can help with any of these wishes, please call Arlet at 515-320-1941 or Diana at 712-424-3559. More imformation will be available as the fair approaches.
