Lady E-Hawks Fall To Cherokee

The bats were cold for the Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks in a 10-2 loss to the Braves of Cherokee in Lakes Conference softball play Wednesday night. The loss dropped Emmetsburg to a mark of 9-12 overall and 2-7 in league play.

Cherokee would take an early advantage in the contest as they were able to push two runs over the plate in the top of the first inning, using a base hit and an error along with a passed ball to do the damage, while stranding a runner on base.

The Lady E-Hawks would come up to bat and were retired in order to end the first inning trailing 2-0.

Cherokee would add two more runs to their tally in the top of the second inning off a walk and a base hit and used walks and another passed ball to inflict the damage against the Emmetsburg defense. But this time, the Braves left two runners straded at third and second when the at-bat ended.

Emmetsburg would come up and got Kate Jackson on base after she was hit by a pitch. Jackson would move to second on a passed ball and went to third on Annie Brennan's ground out, but would get no further when Emmetsburg was retired.

The Braves plated a run in the top of the third off a single and used an error to bring the runner home before stranding a runner.

Emmetsburg would get Parker Traub on base to lead off the bottom of the third, but she was left waiting when the inning ended.

With a 5-0 lead to start the fourth, Cherokee would strand three runners without scoring, but Emmetsburg would leave Kate Jackson waiting at first after her base hit.

Cherokee would score two runs in the top of the fifth off a single and a walk before a base hit and passed ball let the runners come home, but the Braves left two runners stranded.

Emmetsburg would finally find some offense in the bottom of the fifth, as with two outs, Cheyanne Fries was hit by a pitch to get on base. A base hit from Sarah Simington allowed Fries to score and Simington would come around to score after a wild pitch before Lindsay Carter was walked, but left waiting when the inning ended.

Both teams were retired in order in the sixth inning and in the top of the seventh, Cherokee added three runs after a double play out off a pair of singles and an error, but left a runner waiting.

Emmetsburg would come up in the bottom of the seventh and went down one out before Parker Traub got on base off an error. Cheyanne Fries was hit by a pitch to move Traub to second, but Sarah Simington hit a fly ball to right field that caugh Fries off base and she was put out to end the game in the 10-2 setbacl for the Lady E-Hawks.

Mikayla Frerichs would absorb the loss for Emmetsburg in the ptiching circle, as she fave up 10 runs, five earned, off 13 hits with six walks and two strikeouts in the contest.

Emmetsburg was limited to just three hits in the ballgame, as Sarah Simington, Kate Jackson and Parker Traub would collect the only hits in the contest.
