by Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks saw their Lakes Conference record fall to 2-5 last Thursday night with a4-2 loss to LeMars in softball action. The loss dropped Emmetsburg to 7-12 on the season.

The Lady E-Hawks made a good start hosting the Bulldogs, retiring the visitors in order in the top of the first. Emmetsburg would go down two quick outs, but got a base hit from Annie Brennan, only to leave her courtesy runner, Ali Laubenthal, waiting when the inning ended.

In the second, LeMars would get a runner on base off an error, but left her stranded. The Lady E-Hawks would lead off with a booming triple from Sarah Simington, who would come around to scored off a fielders' choice on Morgan Jamison's at-bat. Jamison would be left waiting after a sacrifice bunt by Emma Anderson when Parker Traub hit into a putout to end the inning.

Trailing 1-0, LeMars would go down in order in the top of the third, while Emmetsburg got a one-out single from Lindsay Carter that was followed by a base hit from Annie Brennan. A fielders's choice would put Carter out at third and a fly ball left courtesy runner Ali Laubenthal and Jackson waiting when the inning ended.

In the top of the fourth, LeMars found their bats as they would send four runs across the plate, using a three singles, a passed ball and a fielders' choice to do the damage and put Emmetsburg into a 3-1 deficit when the at-bat ended with a pair of Bulldog runners stranded on base.

Emmetsburg would come up in the bottom of the fourth and got Morgan Jamison on base after she was hit by a pitch, but she would be left waiting when the inning ended.

LeMars would threaten in the top of the fifth, as they loaded the bases with one out off three consecutive base hits, but the Emmetsburg defense made the stop to avoid trouble.

However, the Lady E-Hawks would leave Macy McAllister and Annie Brennan on base in the bottom of the frame.

LeMars went down in order in the top of the sixth, but Emmetsburg would get a run back as Molly Schany singled and came around to score off a base hit from Gillian Nolan and a ground out, but that would be all the Lady E-Hawks could muster.

In the top of the seventh, LeMars would strand two runners, but Emmetsburg would be retired in order to end the game.

Mikayla Frerichs took the loss, giving up four runs, two earned, off seven hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

For Emmetsburg, Sarah Simington had a triple, while Macy McAllister and Lindsay Carter both had two hits each and Molly Schany and Gillian Nolan each rapped out base hits in the effort.
