Harlan L. Meier 1938-2017

Funeral service for Harlan L. Meier of Cyinder will be Saturday, June 17, at 1 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Pastor Judy DePue will officiate.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. Military rites will be conducted by members of V.F.W. Post #2295, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Harlan Lee Meier, son of Gerald and Gagel Faye (Boettcher) Meier, was born Nov. 26, 1938 in Emmetsburg. He received his education in Emmetsburg and Cylinder. He served in the United States Air Force in Strategic Command, stationed in California.

As a young man, Harlan worked with his father in their Allis Chalmers implement dealership in Cylinder. Harlan later owned and operated a snowmobile and motorcycle shop in Cylinder.

Harlan moved to Brighton, CO where he opened an independent mechanic shop which he operated until his retirement. He then moved back to Iowa 11 years ago.

Harlan was a member of the Cylinder Fire Department where he had served as Fire Chief.

Harlan passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrell Meier; and a son, Chris Meier.

He is survived by his wife, Cassandra of Cylinder; his children, Julie Moser of Colorado, Jeff Meier of Texas and Vicki Hess of Colorado; their mother, Linda Meier of Colorado; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; Cassandra's children, Debra Lay of Florida and Dan Tyrrell of Colorado; a sister, Betty Mewborn of Texas.
